How to Finish the Whole Qur’an in Ramadan

It is highly recommended to try and finish the Qur’an in Ramadan due to the fact that the Angel Gabriel (Jibreel) used to teach and revise it with the Prophet (ﷺ) every Ramadan. It is reported from Ibn Abbas that:

كَانَ جِبْرِيلُ ـ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ ـ يَلْقَاهُ فِي كُلِّ لَيْلَةٍ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ، فَيُدَارِسُهُ الْقُرْآنَ

Gabriel used to meet him every night during Ramadan to teach the Qur’an to him.

[Bukhari 3554]

And it is reported from Abu Hurayrah that:

كَانَ يَعْرِضُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْقُرْآنَ كُلَّ عَامٍ مَرَّةً، فَعَرَضَ عَلَيْهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فِي الْعَامِ الَّذِي قُبِضَ

Gabriel used to repeat the recitation of the Qur’an with the Prophet (ﷺ) once a year, but he repeated it twice with him in the year of his death.

[Bukhari 4998]

However, it is not obligatory to do so as some people erroneously think.

Since many people are still working from home nowadays, due to a post-Covid world, it should be easier than ever to try and finish the Qur’an in Ramadan.

Here are some schedule recommendations based on the Medina Mushaf, which is 20 pages per juzz/para:

Method 1:

The standard practice and the easiest is to read 4 pages from the Medina Mushaf after every prayer. It should not take you more than 15 minutes if you can recite the Qur’an in Arabic.

Method 2:

Some people prefer to read 10 pages after Fajr from the Medina Mushaf and then 10 pages again after Asr.

Method 3:

Some prefer to read all 20 pages in one sitting per day, usually after Fajr since it is when they have the most time.

Method 4:

I personally prefer to have it done by Maghrib. There is too much going on after Isha with Taraaweeh, especially for those who go to the mosque, or you just want to sleep since you have to get up again at dawn and the iftaar meal is already breaking you down!

So this is the schedule that I personally prefer:

After Fajr: 4 pages

Around mid-day before Dhuhr (usually 10-11 AM): 4 pages

After Dhuhr: 4 pages

After Asr: 4 pages

After Maghrib: 4 pages (or you can also do so 15 minutes before Maghrib)

The important thing is to create a schedule and then consistently stick to it no matter what!

Hope you all have a blessed Ramadan!
